This Suspect Parameter Number (SPN) is triggered when the Electronic Control Module (ECM) detects an abnormal signal—either no signal, intermittent signal, or incorrect voltage—from the sensor monitoring the transmission output shaft's rotational speed.

Step 1: Visual Inspection Start by inspecting the output shaft speed sensor located on the transmission housing. Check for physical damage, loose mounting bolts, or excessive dirt buildup. On used excavators, carefully examine the entire wiring harness from sensor to ECM for signs of abrasion, especially where the harness passes through metal brackets or rubs against the frame.

Step 2: Electrical Testing Using a digital multimeter, disconnect the sensor and measure resistance across the sensor terminals. Typical resistance values range from 800-2500 ohms (consult your specific service manual). Check for voltage supply from the ECM—usually 5V or 8V reference voltage.
