XCMG XS15 Fault Code 141: Meaning, Symptoms, and Fix

What is XCMG XS15 Fault Code 141?

XCMG XS15 Fault Code 141 indicates a fault in the Engine Control Module (ECM) related to the fuel injection system — specifically, an abnormal signal or open circuit detected on the fuel injection solenoid valve control circuit.

On the XS15 mini excavator, the ECM continuously monitors the electrical signals sent to the fuel injection solenoid. When the output voltage or current falls outside the manufacturer's acceptable threshold, Code 141 is triggered to protect the engine from running in an unsafe or uncontrolled fueling state.

This fault is critical because the fuel injection solenoid directly governs the precise volume and timing of fuel delivery. Left unaddressed, it can lead to progressive engine damage, uncontrolled fuel consumption, or a complete no-start condition.

Common Symptoms

When Fault Code 141 is active on your XCMG XS15, operators typically experience:

  • Warning light illuminated on the instrument cluster with a fault code displayed
  • Engine derating — reduced power output and sluggish throttle response
  • Rough idle or engine misfiring at low RPM under load
  • Black or excessive exhaust smoke indicating improper fuel delivery
  • Intermittent stalling or difficulty starting, particularly in cold conditions

Potential Causes

The following are the most likely technical causes of Code 141, especially on used or older XS15 machines:

  • Failed or worn fuel injection solenoid — internal coil burnout or winding short
  • Open or shorted wiring harness — particularly along harness routing points near the engine block where friction and heat cause insulation wear
  • Corroded or loose connector pins at the solenoid plug or ECM harness connector
  • Low battery voltage causing insufficient power supply to the solenoid circuit
  • ECM internal fault — rare, but possible on high-hour machines with moisture ingress history

How to Troubleshoot and Fix Code 141

Step 1 — Inspect the Wiring Harness and Connectors Begin with a thorough visual inspection of the fuel injection solenoid harness. On used XS15 excavators, pay close attention to harness sections routed near the exhaust manifold and engine block — these are known friction and heat exposure points. Look for cracked insulation, bare wires, or signs of rodent damage.

Step 2 — Check Connector Integrity Disconnect the solenoid connector and inspect all pins for corrosion, moisture, or bent terminals. Use electrical contact cleaner and a pin probe tool to clean and reseat connections. Corroded connectors are among the most common culprits on machines with field hours.

Step 3 — Perform Solenoid Resistance and Voltage Testing Using a digital multimeter, measure the solenoid coil resistance. Compare your reading to the manufacturer specification (typically 10–20 ohms for this class of solenoid). Next, backprobe the connector with the ignition on and verify supply voltage is within 11.5–13.5V DC. A reading outside this range points to a supply circuit or battery issue rather than the solenoid itself.

Step 4 — Use Diagnostic Software Connect XCMG-compatible diagnostic software or a compatible OBD interface to read live data and confirm active fault status. Clear the code and monitor for recurrence under load.

Step 5 — Replace the Solenoid if Required If resistance and wiring check out normal, replace the fuel injection solenoid with a genuine XCMG OEM part. Avoid aftermarket substitutes on used machines — mismatched specs can retrigger the fault.

Always consult a certified heavy equipment mechanic or an authorized XCMG service dealer before performing repairs, particularly on machines under warranty or in safety-critical applications. Incorrect repairs may void warranties or create additional mechanical hazards.
